birthED Response to COVID-19

Hello Future and Current Students of birthED,

First, let's all take a big giant anxiety releasing breath, because wow the news is coming fast and furious at the moment. I wanted to reach out to assure you that we here at birthED have our eyes and ears on the unfolding recommendations from the CDC and local Minnesota Department of Health.

As of 6/22 all classes and lactation visits continue to be done virtually. Look for an email prior to class with a zoom link to your virtual class. All you need is anything with a camera to participate. This means your laptop with built in mic/camera, mobile phone, or even Ipad will work.

We have been getting GREAT feedback on our virtual class structure from students:

My husband and I both really enjoyed our birthED class, our instructor was both fun and engaging and made a very educational 4 hours fly by, and somehow did this all via Zoom. I can't say enough good things, I am so happy we went with a BirthED class.

If you have friends who need a class that is online send 'em over, we small businesses are having a bit of a bumpy ride, but I'm sure we'll get through it.

We will resume in person classes when the direction from the Minnesota Dept of Health suggests it’s safe to be closer than 6 feet apart from people and can gather in groups of more than 10. Our classes, while always kept small, are still over 10 humans in a room on a regular basis and while we try to have a couch for every birthing person and their partner we do sometimes have to go 3 to a couch. Plus, we just can’t fathom asking pregnant people to wear a mask for 4 hours of in person class time.

“When we started the Lamaze class we were in the unique situation of taking class right before the stay-at-home order came out. We had our first class in person and the following classes were virtual. Our instructor was on top of making the class accessible to everyone. Even though it was virtual, class ran seamlessly and she still managed to keep it fun and interesting.”

“Each class flies by, and you can't help but fall in love with them. Also, Liz has been super helpful in keeping us updated on all of the changes taking place in the hospitals/birth centers with Covid-19. “

Birth keeps happening, so education from birthED will keep happening.

Be Well,
